The Manager's Stance on Celtic

The Ipswich boss described Celtic as "an enormous soccer institution" but emphasized he is "deeply involved" of a "extensive rebuilding" with Ipswich Town.

The mid-thirties assumed control of Portman Road in 2021 and led them to the Premier League with consecutive elevations, but they won just four games last season as they were relegated back to the second division and they presently occupy 12th in the Championship.

"There have been any of those discussions," the London-born former Irish young player said when questioned about being on the candidate list.

"It's not something I have considered seriously, or where any part of my focus is this week.

"I have a unique position here at a remarkable club. And we're at a really important stage of the season. Everything outside of that hasn't touched my radar."

Context and Contractual Aspects

Reports indicate that McKenna would be willing to talk to Celtic given his childhood support.

"Growing up, we all have our affinities," he said when questioned about those. "It's unlikely everyone has to publicly and announce what they used to be, but of course it's a massive sports organization."

McKenna signed a fresh multi-year deal in 2024 and was asked about his alleged £5m release clause.

"Throughout coaching agreements, there are provisions," he responded. "I don't know what mine are and, were I informed, I wouldn't disclose you anyway!

"I tackle this job like I will remain Ipswich manager indefinitely. I understand that's not always going to be the situation, but I will consistently do my best as while I am here."

The Welsh Coach's Position

The former striker represented the Hoops on temporary transfer from Newcastle United in the mid-2000s, but the former Wales forward is minded to complete the current global tournament qualification, a stance that would effectively rule out the 46-year-old from assuming the Celtic job.

Wales are currently in third place in their World Cup group behind leaders the Red Devils and runners-up North Macedonia.

Wins over Liechtenstein and North Macedonia in next month would secure their position in the final qualifying round, but they are all but assured of making those, thanks to a productive Nations League performance, should they not end up Group J runners-up.

Given his present stance, Bellamy, whose contract expires after the European Championship, would be unavailable until after the qualifying matches at the earliest.
