Critical Assessment Exposes Defence Shortcomings

In a severely negative evaluation, the military oversight panel asserted that the nation is "nowhere near" necessary preparedness levels to properly protect itself and its allies, especially during a period when security threats to Europe are "significant".

The inquiry determined that Britain is not fulfilling its Nato obligations and falling "well under" of its stated leading role.

The report was released as the security agency identified possible locations for six new ammunition plants, forming part of a comprehensive plan to enhance local military manufacturing.
