The England national team will commence their UEFA Euro 2028 campaign at the Manchester City’s stadium, assuming they attain the relatively straightforward qualification for a championship hosted across the bulk of Britain and the Irish Republic.

City’s stadium has not staged an England men’s game since eight years ago, when the Turkish team were beaten 2-1 in a friendly, but is highly likely to stage the national team for their inaugural game on Saturday 10 June 2028.

The team are set to play their final two group matches at Wembley, but, in the event of winning the preliminary round, their knockout stage opener would occur at St James’ Park. Securing the runner-up spot would mean starting the elimination stage at Everton’s Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Championship Kickoff and Demonstration

The championship was launched at an gathering in a London landmark on Wednesday evening. Senior figures from the tournament organizers and the organizing bodies were barracked as they arrived the site by approximately 50 protesters, who demanded the Israeli team to be kicked out from international football because of the situation in Gaza.

Placards were raised with phrases stating “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while activists called out: “Kick Israel out.”

Tournament Schedule

The opening game of the tournament will be played at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, on June 9, 2028, a match that will involve the Welsh team if they qualify.

Wembley will host the penultimate rounds and the final, which will be staged on a Sunday in July 2028 with a commencement at late afternoon.

It is hoped that an earlier start, which will also be used for Champions League finals from the following campaign, will cater to family audiences and help connect with a wider spectrum of fans.

Participating Countries

The Ireland are set to play their first game at the Aviva Stadium and the Scottish team would play similarly at Glasgow’s Hampden Park.

All four host countries’ teams will enter the preliminary stage; two automatic spots will be held in reserve for any that fail to qualify for the tournament through the standard process.

Locations and Elimination Phase

The Birmingham venue and The North London arena round out the nine host stadiums. Each one will hold at least one knockout match, with the quarter-finals played at each country’s national stadium.

The draw for the qualifiers will be held in Belfast, which was removed as a host city last year when it emerged Casement Park could not be redeveloped in time, on 6 December 2026.
