Slot Provides No Excuses and Pledges to Find Route From Slump

Arne Slot declared he had to “look at myself” following the Reds suffered a sixth loss in 7 Premier League matches at home against Forest and insisted he would find a solution out of the title holders' slump.

Forest, in the relegation zone before kick off, produced the biggest victory at Liverpool's stadium in their club records as the Merseyside club fell to an 8th loss in eleven matches in all competitions. The British record signing, Alexander Isak, was once more anonymous and the home side argued Murillo’s opener should have been ruled out for comparable grounds to the captain's disallowed effort versus Manchester City prior to the international break. But Slot admitted the buck rested with him and made no excuses.

“Nobody wants to hear me now talking about officiating calls if you lose 3-0 at home to Nottingham Forest,” said the Liverpool head coach. “I should examine my own role initially and my team, but it does show you how a goal can alter the momentum of a game. Earlier I was just hoping for us to net a strike. Later we barely generated any chances.

“Of course there is a path forward, especially with the talented players we have. Regardless if you win or are beaten when you look back you are always considering: ‘Where can we improve, where can we make changes?’ but that is something else from doubting yourself.

“I want to stress I am responsible for the present defeats. You are responsible when you are winning but also liable when you are losing. I can never come up with sufficient reasons for us to have the outcomes we have. That is far from acceptable and I am responsible for that.”

Liverpool’s performance unravelled as the coach introduced multiple offensive substitutions when chasing the game. “It was the same away at Nottingham Forest last season,” he remarked. “I took the French defender off and brought on [Diogo] Jota and he scored immediately to make it 1-1. At that time it was courageous, now it’s likely stupid.”

The Anfield side last lost two successive at Anfield Premier League games against Nottingham Forest in 1963. The last time they suffered back-to-back league games by a three-goal scoreline was in 1965.

Slot commented: “It was very bad. Competing at home, losing 3-0 no matter which opponent you encounter is a terrible outcome. Unexpected if you consider the first half-hour of the match. I did not witness us creating so many chances in the opening 30 minutes maybe the whole campaign, and the first time they entered in our box they found the back of the net.

“It wasn’t at City, but in all other fixture we have been the dominant team and were able to create chances. Recently it is nearly constantly that we fail to convert our chances and the ones we allow go in.”
