Report Reveals Alarming Figures

A report titled “Until Harm Ends” filed FoI requests to child welfare offices across the United Kingdom.

Data from 135 local authorities revealed that out of 2,335 young people classified as having been trafficked or suspected of having been trafficked, 864 (thirty-seven percent) were listed as disappeared.

Overall one hundred forty-one municipal councils replied to inquiries about lone child asylum seekers in their care, who numbered eleven thousand nine hundred ninety-nine minors. Of these, one thousand five hundred one (13%) were recorded as vanished.

Authorities Response

An official representative commented: “This government inherited a youth welfare framework unable to satisfy the requirements of the nation’s most at-risk minors.

“Our significant children’s wellbeing and schools bill is the largest reform of minor protection in a long time, delivering on our goal to break the link between young people’s circumstances and their later achievements.”

The representative continued that the steps include bettering the availability of supervised accommodation, better information sharing, mandating the creation of collaborative minor protection units in every area, and implementing a new responsibility on associates to systematically involve education and childcare settings in their safety measures to help avoid children being overlooked.
