New York Jets Head Coach Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After New York City Incident

Jets head coach Aaron Glenn has stated that he has been in contact with defensive back Kris Boyd and feels certain the player will recover well after being shot in midtown Manhattan in the early hours of Sunday.

Glenn described that Boyd, who is hospitalized, was “upbeat” during a recent discussion.

“That gives me comfort, is that he’s feeling positive,” Glenn stated on Wednesday. “His wife and his kid, they’re in good spirits and he is expected to recover fully.”

It remained unclear when Boyd would leave the medical facility, where he has been listed as in critical but steady condition.

“Not certain at the moment,” Glenn remarked. “But I will say this, hearing him speak, he seemed very positive. Once more, that’s what gives me comfort, that he feels like that and he’s talking that way.”

Authorities issued surveillance images Monday of an individual wanted in the shooting of Boyd. A motive for the shooting is currently under review and officials stated it is unknown if Boyd was the intended victim. No one else was hurt according to reports.

The attack took place in the early morning on Sunday about halfway between MSG and Times Square. Boyd, in his late twenties, was admitted to a local hospital after being shot in the abdomen, police said. The perpetrator got away.

Glenn mentioned Boyd has been in his thoughts “constantly” since he heard about the shooting. Glenn added that Boyd and his wife are new parents to a child.

“The first thing I thought about, he has a new baby,” Glenn noted. “My mind went to his family, I’m thinking about his kid and I want to make sure that he’s OK. That was my main concern.
“A certain process is underway, I’ll keep private, but I’m happy at the fact that he will recover excellently.”

Boyd did not participate in the present campaign, after joining the team, after his season was cut short due to injury on August 18 with an injury to his shoulder that needed an operation.

Boyd came to New York as a new signing in spring and was expected to be a significant contributor of a revamped special teams unit under the coach and ST coordinator Chris Banjo. However, he got hurt during preseason drills on August 2 and was carted from the field.

Boyd has remained around the team all season long while working his way back.

“He has stayed engaged with the team,” Glenn commented. “I mean, he is a regular at our matches. He is completely involved. Given his status as a special teams standout, he’s done a really good job of helping the other guys we have.”

Boyd, hailing from the Lone Star State, spent his initial four years with the Vikings after his selection in the later rounds by Minnesota out of Texas University in 2019. He signed with Arizona in last year and moved to Houston’s squad subsequently. Boyd signed a one-year contract for $1.6 million with the Jets in the spring.
